Five years in the making, the Mistral-XX is the culmination of relentless field testing aimed at creating the ultimate versatile spinning pack rod—one engineered to perform anywhere on the globe.
The Mistral series has always been developed with both domestic and international perspectives in mind. In Japan, development centered on boat games like seabass and Spanish mackerel, as well as low-position kayak fishing. For global waters, the blanks were designed with large freshwater apex predators in sight. Offshore fishing in particular often brings encounters with unforeseen monsters, and the Mistral possesses the raw power and lifting potential to handle whatever takes the bait.
Precision casting is just as crucial when targeting these fish. Thanks to its crisp, responsive blank, the Mistral offers a sharp, clean swing—making it deadly accurate for pinpoint structure casting and firing directly into frenzied surface boils.

Mistral-68S | 70S
The 68S and 70S lengths were specifically engineered for kayak fishing, boat seabass, and light casting games. To make the Mistral 68S truly perform in these arenas, its butt section had to achieve a supreme balance between high-modulus carbon responsiveness and raw lifting power.
Target species from kayaks and small boats are incredibly diverse, and running into unexpected monsters is always on the table. We knew the blank had to inspire total confidence, making anglers feel that with the Mistral, they can handle whatever comes their way.
To deliver that peace of mind along with the right length and power, we designed a butt section that is approximately 62 mm longer than the other sections' closed lengths. This structure allows anglers to load the rod deeply without hesitation. Adding this specialized section increases the effective working length and shifts the bending fulcrum, giving it a distinctly different feel from other models in the lineup. For the 70S, simply adjust the extension grip according to your target and lure choice.
Mistral-75S｜77S
When you need even greater casting distance with the 68S or 70S, adding the extension piece transforms it into the Mistral 75S. The 7.5 ft length becomes a powerful asset whenever maximum distance is required—whether you're firing into surface boils from a boat, fanning out casts across vast open water, or bombing heavier minnows and pencil baits from shore.
Furthermore, configuring the rod with the longer grip provides the leverage needed to cast larger lures with ease.
This modular design offers unmatched versatility on expeditions, making it effortless to switch targets on the fly or transition seamlessly to shore fishing.
Mistral-59S
Developed as the global benchmark for short casting games, the 5.9 ft length offers the ideal balance for effortless casting, lure manipulation, and fish-fighting across all boat fishing scenarios. It seamlessly executes the three essential pillars of predator angling—enticing the strike, setting the hook, and landing the fish—across lures running at every depth. This is the ultimate versatile spinning rod for anglers taking on aggressive game fish like peacock bass, barramundi, and giant snakehead (toman) on spinning gear. It is equally dialed in for close-quarters kayak casting targeting mangrove jacks and trevally (mekki).
Outfitted with Fuji RV guides, it ensures silky-smooth line release when paired with 3000 to 4000 size reels. Using reels larger than this size will disrupt line flow and choke line velocity, reducing overall casting distance.
Mistral-61S
This model features an extended grip for the 59S, allowing you to tuck the butt securely under your arm when confronting lurking brutes that are too powerful to fight with wrist strength alone.
It is dialed in for light jigging and aggressive predators that hammer lures on violent, sudden strikes where underarm bracing is essential. The blank is designed to handle jig weights around 100–150 g.
This setup is an ideal match for anglers who prefer a crisp, fast-recovery jigging rod with plenty of backbone.
Mistral-52S｜54B
MS52
An ultra-short 5.2 ft configuration of the Mistral. While the compact distance between the reel seat and the stripper guide might seem unusual at first glance, it excels at close-quarters short casting and pitching.
For spinning setups, it accommodates reels up to the 3000 size. The Fuji RV guides perform exceptionally well, showcasing a new era of modular pack rods made possible only by the Mistral’s crisp, muscular blank. It also pairs with baitcasting reels depending on the levelwind height; our field-test models operated without issue.
MS54B
A triggerless baitcasting model designed specifically for kayak light jigging. Compared to the MS52, the rear grip is extended to allow underarm bracing. It enables a secure palm grip with compact reels, making it ideal for vertical jigging from a kayak. Additionally, it can double as a spinning rod when you need an underarm grip to leverage extra fighting power.

From trevallies blazing across the reefs of the Nansei Islands and monster groupers buried in structure, to giant seabass on big baits and hard-hitting snakeheads across Asia—I have faced countless predators from the seat of my kayak.
When it comes to kayak fishing, I look for three core elements in a rod: strength, pinpoint control, and versatile performance. Angling from a kayak is a unique game; because you fish strictly from a seated position, body movement is inherently restricted.
Operating safely within regulations, a kayak lets you slip into skinny shallows boats cannot access, or paddle out to offshore structures out of reach from shore. Without an engine spooking the water, the low stealth profile often draws strikes from surprisingly large fish.
But raw power alone isn't enough. Without the finesse to work minnows and topwater plugs with precision, you won't trigger that strike in the first place. The Mistral's supple belly and responsive tip deliver pinpoint casting accuracy and technical lure control, even from low-angle seated positions.
A rod that loads progressively also takes the physical strain off your body during casts and prolonged battles, keeping you on the water longer. While the longer grip configuration might seem extended at first glance, its length and shape are dialed in perfectly for underarm bracing during technical lure action and heavy fights.

Through years of traveling the world in the travel industry, the critical elements and exacting specs I needed finally came into focus, solidifying the rod's core concept.

Designing a modular multi-piece rod for spinning tackle is inherently far more challenging than for baitcasting, and perfecting the taper configurations took considerable time. While reel sizes, line ratings, and spool capacities should be tailored to each specific setup, the result is a masterfully balanced rod that adapts seamlessly across configurations from 5.2 ft all the way up to 7.5 ft to suit any style.
