Following an exhaustive prototyping phase to dial in the absolute sweet spot for snakehead fishing, the Trapa 77B+ settled on dual modular configurations: 6.6 ft and 7.7 ft.

OLD NORTH BUTT was born purely out of a deep reverence for the snakehead (raigyo). Guided by an unwavering passion for the fish and a commitment to preserving its future, the brand’s founder set out to reimagine the frog from the ground up.
The result is the BOTA.
The concept was sparked by a heartbreaking field encounter: watching a conventional upward-facing double hook injure a snakehead's eye. Driven by that pivotal moment, the founder began questioning standard frog architecture and set out to build a truly fish-conscious design.
The hook is the ultimate point of contact between angler and fish. By fundamentally rethinking hook orientation and running through relentless iterations of bend profiles, gap clearances, and hook geometries, OLD NORTH BUTT engineered a proprietary snakehead double hook. As an online-exclusive collaboration between TRANSCENDENCE and OLD NORTH BUTT, we are proud to release the EVA Grip Model.
This specialized handle configuration was engineered specifically to maximize operability with large low-profile baitcasting reels—a format seeing widespread adoption among modern anglers as reel options continue to expand. Equipped with a slim, ergonomic Fuji ACS-17 reel seat, it allows for effortless, compact palming that unlocks razor-sharp, micro-finesse frog manipulation while drastically reducing grip fatigue during marathon sessions.
To complement the lighter mass of modern low-profile reels compared to traditional round reels, the rear grip has been precision-tuned with a counter-balance 10 g heavier than the standard cork version, maintaining an impeccable, weightless balance in the hand.

When spring arrives, vegetation sprouts, and floating aquatic leaves begin to emerge across the water's surface, our season officially opens.
Snakehead fishing is a discipline entirely its own. Anglers willingly impose strict self-constraints—committing exclusively to hollow-body frogs on the surface to challenge their quarry. Above all, I am captivated by the unique scenery of the waters where snakehead thrive. Casting into a world dyed entirely in vibrant green, surrounded by aquatic vegetation where the water itself is often hidden from view, offers an experience with few equals in the fishing world. Constantly pursuing these landscapes—traveling north, south, east, and west via personal vehicle and public transit alike—I found myself in desperate need of a dedicated, multi-piece snakehead rod.
Multi-piece pack rods that could be used for snakehead have existed before. However, because they prioritized general versatility, their tips were inevitably too soft. In the heavy-cover games I love most, frogs would constantly hang up and snag upon contacting vegetation. Worse, they lacked the raw driving force to securely set heavy-gauge double hooks.
Engineered from day one as a dedicated snakehead weapon, the Trapa completely eliminates these compromises with a crisp, high-elasticity tip and a powerful, unyielding blank—delivering an impeccably smooth and comfortable frog-game experience.
Another compelling hallmark of the Trapa—true to TRANSCENDENCE’s design pedigree—is its modular dual-length system, allowing you to switch seamlessly between 7.7 ft and 6.6 ft. Proposed from the very onset of development, this capability was conceived to conquer every conceivable scenario in the snakehead game, from narrow agricultural creeks to expansive coastal lagoons (gata).

While far from soft, the blank possesses a dynamic compliance that smoothly absorbs violent headshakes in open water to prevent hook tear-outs. And despite not being an unyielding broomstick, it generates the explosive power required to drive heavy-gauge hooks home at extreme distances and haul trophy fish out alongside massive weed mats.
It delivers exceptional castability—loading smoothly across a broad payload spectrum from 18 g to 60 g to launch frogs deep into high-percentage zones.

The 6'6" length delivers agile, razor-sharp precision in small creeks, tight banks, and close-quarters shootouts. The 7'7" configuration unleashes long-range casting distance, extensive hooksetting stroke leverage, and surging power across expansive, open waters.
Gear claiming to be "versatile" often ends up feeling somewhat compromised—jack-of-all-trades, master of none. The Trapa, however, carries zero compromise. Fish it once, and you will immediately feel how relentlessly we honed blank performance to redefine what true versatility means in a snakehead rod.
The Trapa is released in two grip variations: an EVA split grip and a classic straight cork grip. As an angler who primarily runs modern low-profile baitcasters rather than domestic round reels or classic Abu Ambassadeurs, no existing snakehead rod on the market offered the grip ergonomics I demanded. That is why I proposed developing the dedicated EVA model—specifically dialed in for low-profile reel handling.
Moving away from the conventional Fuji TCS-18 reel seat standard on traditional heavy rods, we adopted the slimmer Fuji ACS-17. This achieves effortless, compact palming alongside far nimbler, micro-finesse frog manipulation. It is an absolute must-try for any angler pairing their rod with a low-profile reel.
