Specialist of bottom game

The Ocelate 59B+ is a modular multi-piece baitcasting rod that transforms between 5.9 ft and 7.0 ft.

Born from relentless field testing against countless monster bass on Lake Biwa, its versatile dual lengths paired with an MH+ power rating make it one of the most frequently reached-for rods in modern bass fishing. It truly shines in bottom presentations, where its exceptionally sensitive blank conveys precise underwater feedback that sets it apart from conventional rods.

Because the tip does not give way under light loads, sinkers and lures are far less likely to wedge into structure. This delivers unmatched comfort and efficiency in bottom contact fishing—vastly outperforming traditional pack rods and letting you probe heavy cover with zero hesitation.

The crisp, responsive blank also excels at long-distance casting, making it a formidable tool well beyond bottom tactics. It pairs seamlessly with heavy spinnerbaits and 2 oz-class swimbaits/big baits, making it an outstanding choice as a heavy-versatile cornerstone.

Once hooked, the intense recoil of the 4-axis carbon weave and dialed-in bending curve unleash overwhelming, brute-force lifting power. Rather than merely wearing a fish down, this rod is built to forcibly overpower and subdue monsters. Within the MH+ class, its lifting torque is truly unrivaled.

Naturally, the Ocelate excels beyond freshwater bass—it is an indispensable weapon for saltwater bottom contact, from Texas-rigged rockfish to swimming jighead presentations. It is also a personal favorite of developer Takada for tackling aggressive giant snakehead (toman) on global expeditions.

COMPASS OF YOUR DREAM

Basic combination

The base configuration of the Ocellate 59B+ provides two versatile setups in a single package: 5.9 ft and 7.0 ft. One of the greatest appeals of the OT59B+ is the freedom to instantly switch between these two lengths on expedition, optimizing your rod for whatever situation the water presents.

Altering the length transforms the blank's character entirely, revealing two completely different actions in one rod.

While engineered primarily for black bass and saltwater rockfish, its extraordinary sensitivity ensures you never miss subtle bottom transitions or the faintest predatory taps—making it equally adept across a wide spectrum of delicate, high-finesse presentations.

Extensively field-tested on global predators like giant snakehead (toman) and hard-pulling reef groupers, this rod has no artificial limits. We encourage anglers to unleash its muscular blank and take on any adversary across the globe.

A prime scenario for the 5.9 ft configuration is fishing high-density soft plastics. The classic cadence of "two jerks, one pause" has become a modern bass fishing staple. Most conventional rods dedicated to high-density plastics measure in the low 6 ft range at their shortest, with rods stretching into the late 6 ft range being quite common. However, because this technique demands continuous wrist snaps, longer rods with fast-taper tips inevitably cause severe angler fatigue over long sessions.

By combining a compact 5.9 ft length with a precisely calculated weight balance centered over the reel seat, the rod delivers such effortless agility that you can hold your tackle with virtually zero grip pressure. Once you experience this level of fatigue-free control, you won't ever want to go back.

In shore fishing, this configuration also excels at close-quarters pitching right around your feet and pinpoint targeting of man-made structures like sluice gates and locks. We encourage anglers to leverage this exceptional maneuverability and play a relentlessly aggressive game.

In its 7.0 ft configuration, the Ocelate transforms into a true heavy-versatile powerhouse with immense coverage. For bottom contact soft plastics—such as rubber jigs, free rigs, and Texas rigs—it effortlessly accommodates everything from lightweight presentations up to well over an ounce.

Beyond soft plastics, it excels equally with 2 oz-class swimbaits/big baits, heavy spinnerbaits, and deep-diving crankbaits. Covering an extraordinarily wide lure window from 7 g to 70 g, it is the definitive heavy-versatile weapon for any serious angler.

Utilizing a blank profile rooted in slow-pitch jigging design, the Ocellate 59B+ delivers an extraordinary level of sensitivity that truly sets it apart from conventional multi-piece rods. This razor-sharp feedback makes it an invaluable ally for hardcore saltwater rockfish games.

When probing snag-heavy structures in Hokkaido and the Tohoku region for fat greenling (ainame), white-edged rockfish (bekko-zoi), and yellow-spotted rockfish (shima-zoi), its heightened sensitivity lets you detect cover instantly to evade snags before they happen. Once a strike occurs, the rod's immense butt power allows you to wrench trophy rockfish out of the crevices and stop them from diving back into the rocks.

Blanks

The strengths of the Ocellate 59 and the existing Pulchra 62B stand at completely opposite ends of the spectrum. Pairing the two creates a flawless, blindspot-free angling system.

Leveraging high-modulus carbon, the Ocellate 59 excels at long-distance casting and aggressive hooksets on bottom-contact bites. In contrast, the Pulchra 62B features a tip that loads deeply during the cast for exceptional accuracy, smoothly absorbing and pinning subtle strikes throughout the mid-depths and surface column without tearing free. To ensure seamless system integration, both rods share the exact same rear grip length.

Furthermore, the Ocellate is fully compatible with the optional Pulchra Long Grip, unlocking even greater modular flexibility. As the rod's designer, I wholeheartedly encourage Pulchra users to add the Ocellate 59 to their arsenal—and for those who start with the Ocellate 59, bringing in the Pulchra 62B will complete the ultimate setup.

Guide Setting

Outfitted with Titanium-frame SiC double-foot guides. While single-foot guides offer the advantage of lightweight construction in bottom-contact games, we believe their tendency to bend under demanding, heavy-duty use is too great a drawback. For the Ocellate, we re-engineered the overall rod balance from the ground up, maintaining exceptionally nimble, featherlight handling even with high-strength double-foot guides installed. The guide train naturally accommodates thick shock leaders as well—we recommend leaders up to around 60 lb to perfectly match the blank's power.

こだわり

Dedicated bottom-contact rods have historically been a rare breed in the multi-piece market. The root cause comes down to structural integrity. To prevent hung lures and snagging on structure, bottom fishing demands a stiff tip that resists bending under load. However, if the blank taper isn’t engineered to perfection, the risk of breakage spikes dramatically—simply put, stiff and short multi-piece rods are inherently prone to snapping.

The Ocelate 59 was created to smash through that engineering barrier. By adopting high-modulus blank technology born in the punishing world of slow-pitch jigging, we achieved an extraordinary balance of brute strength and agile lightness. Over three grueling years of continuous field testing aboard bass boats on Lake Biwa, this rod weathered violent pounding across rough water and endured endless cast-and-retrieve cycles. It hoisted dozens of rokumaru (60 cm+ giants) from thick cover and wrestled in hundreds of 50 cm+ bass. It was thoroughly punished in the most demanding conditions imaginable.

Testing wasn't confined to Japan; we pushed its limits globally against explosive adversaries like Malaysian giant snakehead (toman). Its long-distance casting power, laser pinpoint accuracy, and unyielding leverage around heavy structure set it leagues apart from parabolic multi-piece blanks. As the front-runner in field-driven travel rod design, the Ocelate 59 is a weapon crafted for dedicated anglers chasing their dream catches across the globe.
